The backlash theory of history

Here's a simple way of understanding our recent presidential elections

The election of Donald Trump in 2016 was a backlash against the Obama presidency, the 2008 Great Recession, and neoliberalism or globalism.

The election of Joe Biden in 2020 was a backlash against Donald Trump’s perceived mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The election of Donald Trump in 2024 was a backlash against the rigged economy fostered by the neoliberalism or globalism of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party generally.
